As a California Indian artist that practices traditional place-based arts I am extremely interested the laws and environmental factors that contribute to the loss of access to our traditional materials; which has a direct result in the ability to sustain our artistic practice. I see the impact that both environmental and social derogation has had on the resources needed to create my work. I am hopeful that each generation will take responsibility for our environment so that our tribe will continue to carry on our traditional practices.
While I practice my tribe’s traditional arts and adhere to our unique style, I am known for a blending contemporary material with our natural materials. It is my personal belief that our beautiful artistry is meant to be shared, and enjoy the opportunity to bring my work wider audience.
